CoolEmoji is a copy-and-paste site for emoji, symbols and styled text. It exists because the alternatives are slower than they need to be: pages weighed down with images, fonts and trackers when all you wanted was a character on your clipboard.
Every page is a single HTML document with its styling written inline and one small script for copying, searching and generating text. There are no images, no web fonts, no advertising scripts and no analytics that follow you between sites. That keeps the pages a fraction of the weight of a typical emoji site and means they render in full on a slow connection.
The emoji names come from the Unicode Consortium's own data files, which is why the search on this site matches names you will also see in other databases. Where a symbol has a specific technical use — a music sharp versus a number sign, a registered versus an unregistered trademark — that difference is stated rather than glossed over, because using the wrong one is a real mistake in legal and technical writing.
Two rules govern what gets listed. First, every character must be a real Unicode code point — nothing on this site is an image dressed up to look like text, because that would break the moment you pasted it somewhere. Second, where a symbol has a precise meaning, the meaning is stated: a music sharp is not a hash sign, an unregistered trade mark is not a registered one, and a minus sign is not a hyphen. Careless symbol pages conflate those, and people then publish the wrong mark in legal and mathematical writing.
Advertising scripts are the single largest thing on a typical emoji site — often several hundred kilobytes before the characters themselves load. That trade is a bad one for a page whose entire job is to put one character on your clipboard in under a second, so there is no advertising here and no third-party tracking either.
If something on the site is wrong, or a character does not render on your device, tell us and it will be fixed. The contact details are on the contact page.
